Prairie View&M might have the nicest facilities you’ll find at any H.B.CU. From their 15,000 seat Panther Stadium to a full-blown bowling center, but that’s only scratching the surface of what the school has to offer. That’s why we got exclusive access to take you inside so you can decide for yourself if Prairie View is one of the top H.
B.CU programs in the country. Right now, we’re standing in front of the athletic administration building which was constructed in 2016 when we built the stadium. So this is the entry for you of the athletic administration building. First off, this is our welcome desk.
Y’all say hi. You’re on camera. The history of this William Billy J. Nicks is the proud godfather of football. He built a championship pedigree here back in the early early 50s and 60s and created a very strong tradition.
You could probably see one of the the trophies here is one of our most authentic trophies.
Football led the way and it started creating a lot of championship atmosphere. Uh as you can see with bowling which is our most recent swag championship uh they won last year. Softball is pretty strong here. In football we have a Hall of Famer amongst other names that a lot of people have heard of before.
This is the infamous Panther room. Bring our recruits here to start the recruiting session that we have. Coach Jackson kind of gives them the blueprint of what our program looks like in this room. meet the coaches here and then from there we take this illustrious tour around all of our facilities after as as we’re going to do. Started started 6 a.
m. this morning. That’s a normal normal game prep for me. Wow. So, starting early in the day before the big game.
Okay. Well, there you go. A little behind the scenes there. This is our main weight room that accommodates all of our 18 sports that we have. Everything is structured and stacked different times.
Typically in the mornings, you hear our guys going and these these waist is clinging, man. Early in the morning. I’m surprised it’s quiet right now. Whenever y’all come back again, all this is going to look totally different. We’re getting a full faceelift, a full remodel, new weights, new rebranding.
I’m sure you probably see the old logo on the weights. We’ve archived that logo and going to the regular PB&M logo that’s there. It’s a NFL caliber weight room with some new additions coming. Man, Dr. Williams wasn’t joking when he said NFL caliber weight room.
The assistant performance coach for the Minnesota Vikings is actually a former Prairie View player, Maris Johnson. And those NFL ties have paid off big time for the program because a lot of the equipment in this facility has actually come straight from the Vikings. Antoine Goff, athletic director here at Prairie View&M University. Typical day for me, there is no typical day, right? For me, it’s uh putting out fires, a lot of meetings, a lot of fundraising, going to games, supporting our student athletes, supporting our coaches, making sure the athletic department personnel have the resources to compete for championships.
I’m not going to lie, coach, you’re looking a little a little yoke.
You look a little sad. You’ve been hitting the weight room at all. Yeah, I stay in the weight room, man. I get in here about six times a week, man.
You know, I’m a former football player, student athlete, Bowling Green State University, wide receiver. Try to stay in shape a little bit. So, what’s your favorite lift? It’s probably bench. What’s What’s your max bench?
So, my max bench right now is probably 300. When I was playing 375. Did you ever do the uh 225 com uh combine? Yeah, my highest was uh 15 15 reps at 225. That’s impressive, coach.
Jakia McNeil, the assistant strengthening and conditioning coach. I work with men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and bowling. How important is fueling for a student athlete at Fairy A&M? Um it’s very important, especially with their recovery.
Um, just making sure they one has the energy to get through the workouts and also after the workouts, making sure they’re fully recovered.
Um, just to get through their school day practices in the Texas heat, making sure they’re hydrated. Definitely for basketball, anything that involves especially like lower body, whether it’s strength or like explosion, like a lot of jumps, they do a lot of jumping.
Even with volleyball, they do a lot of jumping. My favorite is like any type of deadlift or squat. After meeting with the strength coaches and Mr.
Allen, I didn’t realize how many people make this football program run at Braview. It’s not just the trainers, coaches, and players, but there are those handling facility upkeep, the equipment staff, and academics. These are all people Dr. Williams introduced us to throughout the tour. So, stick around for that.
Let’s go, Chris. 2 4 6 Are you going to keep going? Let’s go to 20. You got four more. I literally You got four more.
Come on, Chris. You You got three more. Give it to him. You got two. You got three.
Oh god. That’s a lot, man. You good? That’s right. And we’re built different here at preview&m.
I appreciate you hyping me up, coach. Yeah, man. Man, I know in football they probably do a lot of pull-ups. There’s probably a lot of guys that can do that. After getting some time to recover, we stepped out of the performance center, which sits right in the end zone of Panther Stadium, which was officially opened September 4th, 2016.
It seats 15,000 people, has 10 skyboxes, and over 500 premium seats. On top of that, they added a new scoreboard, and already scheduled to upgrade their turf before next season. But to really take it all in, we had to make our way up to the athletic director’s suite. I like to bring everybody in here because I was student athlete here and coming to the stadium when we only had a 1500 seat stadium that sits on this exact same surface and looking at this and then walking out to the seating which will go to you can kind of oversee the entire campus and if you look at that white tower that’s how that’s our land mass all the way to that white tower. Shout out to the best two camera guys in Houston.
Follow them link down below. Black Shear Field. This will be our last year playing on this turf. Beautiful Panther Stadium. What is a game day experience like?
Well, we start out with tailgating on the outskirts, but the experience of alumni, fans, friends, and family just all coming back game day.
But it’s no game day without the marching band. H.B.CU marching bands are the epiphany of of college athletics.
What’s crazy? I’m a former band member, too. When I say PV, you got to say, you know. All right. So, PV, you know.
All right. So, when you hear that, that’s what that’s the chant you going to have to say. All right. My name is Coach Gucci. I coach defensive backs here.
40 years old. Just got a fresh cut, so I feel good right now. I’ve been coaching 17 years, and I love it here. Why are DBs the most athletic on the field? Because everything they do, you have to react.
You don’t know what they’re doing necessarily on offense.
Offense is a cheat code. That’s why every coach in America thinks we’re the genius on offense whereas all they do is get on the board and they just point where they got to go on defense. We have to react. So, you have to be the most athletic to be honest with you.
After learning what game day is like at Panther Stadium and soaking in that Texas heat, we made our way to the locker room while the team was getting ready for practice.
Termaine Jackson, head football coach. What’s your team’s mindset going in against Northwestern State? Hopefully, it’s focus trying to get our first home victory of the season. These guys have progressively gotten better and better as the weeks have went on.
I’m looking forward to watch us fly around, hit people right in the face. As a recruit, what can you expect the game day experience to be like? It’s different than any other. You know, there’s a lot of pageantry in H.B.
C.U. football. I think nobody does it better than Prairie&m. Got a lot of fans that that attended the first home game, a lot of students.
And so with students come a lot of energy, and so I think that that as long as we can carry over what we did the first week, we should have a lot of energy with the band.
And hopefully we’re putting a good product on the field. How has it been being the equipment manager? Well, it’s been good so far being that we are in season. It’s a process going through that process every day.
It’s uh it feels good to be in that position. I You make him look good. That’s my job. So, I try to do my best as I can. Make sure these guys feel good.
When they play good, they play good. They they pay good. So, hey. Next, we went to the student center where there was a bookstore, cafeteria, and even had their own Chick-fil-A. This is where typically all the athletes and everyone eats in here.
The cool thing about us is that we actually have on campus we have apartment style living. So there’s a lot of kitchens in apartments already.
It tends to ease the the lines here with everybody’s cooking at their own space. We’ve seen a lot of what goes into football from the wait room, stadium, and equipment room. But just as important is the success that happens off the field, which is why we went to the student athletic center.
Next, how important is academics? I’ve always told my students two things. Make sure you eligible to hit the field and make sure you graduate. Those are the most important factors I have for our football guys. And more importantly, make sure you walk across the stage.
This past semester, the first semester in school history, the football program has ever been over 3.0. So, not only we’re on 3.0, we also graduated 26 student athletes, football student athletes. You’re not here just for athletics.
You’re here to get education as well. And we’re making sure our guys are prepared and ready for the world. Well, that is a huge accomplishment, especially you’re an athlete, you’re so busy. So being prioritizing academics as well, that’s huge over here. Good, man.
How you been? I’m good. I’m good to see you. What’s going on, man? I’m Chris.
How you doing? We’re just doing a tour here. What’s this? Is like he’s a huge Tik Tok. Uh my name is Feifer Johnson.
Uh my Tik Tok is Three-Finger Without the E. We’ve already seen a lot, but this tour wouldn’t be complete without checking out their 10lane bowling center. Now, you might be asking, why would a school even have a bowling alley? Well, Prairie View’s women’s bowling team is no joke. This year, they brought home their seventh Swack title at the Swack Bowling Championships.
And despite losing their first game to the Southern Jaguars, they locked in and stormed back to win the next three straight. I can’t believe your school has a bowling alley. Can you bowl? A little bit. [Music] Oh, no.
[Music] 0 for three. Dr. Williams is going to show us how it’s done. [Music] You going? You going?
You going. There it is. Dr. Tea Pierre. I’m the founder of athletics here at Prairieview&m University within the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.
We work with the athletics department here at Prairie View to provide nutritional education and support to our student athletes. What do you mean by like nutrition? So, nutrition education, making sure that they know different sources of protein, making sure that they know about hydration. So, fruit as a hydration source, for example. Just making sure our athletes are as prepared as possible so they can fight it out on the field.
for a football player, what would a well-balanced meal look like? So, protein for sure. One of the things that we look at is precision nutrition. So, precision nutrition, taking a look at each athlete by position and making sure that whatever they’re eating, uh, the time of day that they’re eating, the frequency that they’re eating aligns with the position that they play. And so, Coach Ty, who’s in the gold, she’s the new head basketball coach, WNBA player.
We just got our new floors done. So, we haven’t played a game on the floor yet. This is the front for your entrance. This is a national championship team. First championship, coach Billy J.
Nicks. This is the authentic photograph that everybody tends to love. After everything we’ve seen, I get why this football program is so special. At first, we saw what the team does off the field to prepare for game day. But what I realized is that preview sports are about so much more than just making a big play.
It’s about tradition. It’s about history. And most of all, it’s about the family you build along the way. So, shout out to everyone who makes this university what it is. You guys truly make Prairie View unforgettable.
That’s going to do it for the tour of Prairie View&M. And be sure to comment go Panthers and your Instagram for a chance to win some free merch. And I will see you in the next video..
