She’s been impressive. 11.21 twice she’s run. She was the fastest in the heats. Dovaleen Demas, this extraordinary 16-year-old, European under 20 champion last year and under 18 champion this year.
>> [cheering] >> Well, Jamaica’s got their Clayton twins and the United States have got their Maxwell twins, haven’t they? It’s Mia here who won the American championship >> [cheering] >> on this track in 11.08. If she runs that tonight, she’s a massive chance. She’s been the fastest through the rounds.
The only woman to have broken 11 seconds in the field. Jamaica’s won the last four of these. Can they make it five consecutive with Douglas? Mia Maxwell. The twin.

Douglas came in as favorite. I think at the moment it’s Mia Maxwell and Douglas that are probably equal favorites in front of Moriah and Teralonga. They won’t be much in it. Can they run inside 11? Only Tina Clayton’s done it in a final of the world under 20s.
Who am I seeing? >> Set. >> Away, [clears throat] Douglas got out okay. Mia Better out there. Dual is right there early.
It’s Mia in front. Douglas going UP TO HER. MIA IS HOLDING HER THERE AT THE MOMENT. MIA JUST IN FRONT. DOUGLAS COMES AT HER.
MIA HAS WON IT. MIA HAS BEATEN DOUGLAS IN AN absolute thriller. >> [applause] >> So, the twins keep on winning whether Jamaican or you’re an American. What a final it was. It was a showdown, an absolute showdown between the two favorites AND THE 16-YEAR-OLD.
[screaming] YEP. >> [cheering] >> The 16-year-old gets the bronze. Not one, Rob, but three stars here tonight in that final. >> That was a brilliant, brilliant race. Mia Maxwell thoroughly deserved that.
Douglas was coming. She was closing. She showed her prowess and her strength over 200, but she couldn’t quite get on level terms with Mia Maxwell who just doesn’t know how to lose here in Eugene. And Kelly Dual, the European under 20 champion, the European under 18 champion, is the world under 20 bronze medalist in an event where she’ll still be eligible to compete in the next edition in 2 years time. Brilliant for Dual to pick up the bronze.
>> Absolutely. Maxwell just got that edge on Douglas, didn’t she Rosie Ali? It was just the winning move. She was out of the blocks a bit quicker. She knows this track oh so well.
She won the championship here. These are high school kids from Texas and look at Bigfoot here. Yeah, well, we all feel like a chicken dinner right now, don’t we? >> I’d love a chicken dinner. >> These are high school kids from Texas.
She’s a great triple jumper, by the way. What a family they are. Let’s have another look. She just established a little break over Douglas early, didn’t she? >> She really did and I think that is that is where Douglas was defeated.
[cheering] She Douglas came back really well, actually. I’ve got to say Dweller Amida got out so so well and she didn’t relinquish as quickly as I thought she would. It really took a lot for Mia Maxwell to get herself ahead. You can see here she’s still in the battle. Still there and now Maxwell just starts to get a meter or so on it if that really.
For Mia Maxwell virtually a flawless race. I’m sure her coach will go over it at some point and say, “Hey, let’s improve X Y Z.” But for now, she is on top of the world. >> She forced Rob, she forced Douglas into the lean position quite early. So, Douglas started to lean quite early.
She was so desperate to get up alongside of her. When we looked at that replay, you saw Douglas going for the line because Mia had that little half a stride up on her. >> Douglas, I think has another chance in the 200, but tonight was destined to belong to Mia Maxwell. She had the crucial advantage and it was just too much for Douglas’ [cheering] strength to bring her back to her on the line. >> It wasn’t incredibly quick, but it was memorable.
