Meanwhile, Prairie View A&M held its spring game tonight. The Panthers hope to repeat as SWAC champs in 2026. Into the first half, game still scoreless. Last year’s starting quarterback, Tevin Carter, throws up a prayer. It’s caught by Jacobe Bates.
The purple team strikes first, but the gold team ties it up in the second quarter, so it’s 7 to 7 at halftime. Gold knocks through a pair of field goals in the second half, and this will put the game on ice. Kevin Brown Jr. breaks a tackle and scampers all the way to the house for a touchdown. The gold team wins the spring game 20 to 13.
And then it was time for some bling. The Panthers received their 2025 SWAC championship rings after the game. Head coach Tramaine Jackson describes what it was like to see his players open the box and see the literal reminder of their hard work and historic achievement. It means when we stood on that podium January 7th and told everybody what was going to happen, it means it meant that that we can speak those things that are not as though they are. That’s what that meant.
And it gave us great confidence just to say we’re going to finish the fight and do it again. And now now we’re not chasing one ring, we’re going to get two. The Panthers quest for their second straight SWAC championship ring and their first-ever Celebration Bowl ring begins September 29th at Tarleton State.
