What a beautiful day it is and I get a little bit of that cloud cover as well. Makes it nice and cool as the Astros and the Angels go head-to-head for the third and final game of the series. The Angels hoping to avoid the three-game sweep. >> Angels have dealt Logan O’Hoppe and Chase Silseth to the Texas Rangers. They’ve gotten back a single-A infielder by the name of Onel Arredondo from the Rangers, but a couple of guys that go to a division rival.
Wade Meckler found out just about the same time we did that Logan O’Hoppe and Chase Silseth have been traded. >> Astonished. Grayson Rodriguez pitching to Tyler Heineman behind the plate tonight. >> And Grayson, you know, he’s from the Houston area. You love to see him to go out there and attack and be consistent with his fastball.
>> Jose Altuve strikes out again. >> There’s that good slider. I love that depth on the slider. >> He saw Altuve trying to snap out of an 0 for 12 on this road trip. He is 2 for 19 overall.
And he fights that one off into right field. Jose Altuve snaps that 0 for 12 with a good at bat against Grayson Rodriguez. >> Stairs. So, Walker draws a walk. >> Batting 232, 295 on base percentage, 12 homers, 30 runs batted in for Jose.
And this is a ball grounded softly toward short, fielded by Neto, throws a little low, but handled by Shawna Well. >> Interim GM of the Angels, John Mozeliak, a trade made today. Logan O’Hoppe and Chase Silseth go to the Rangers. So, how do these things kind of come about and what made that an appeasable deal for you? >> Yeah, so obviously the last 48 hours, things are starting to pick up a lot in sort of the trade world right now.
Uh Monday’s the trade deadline, so a lot’s going to happen between now and then. Um you know, clearly for us, we are just looking to to make some changes, some positive changes for the Angels. And you know, clearly where we are right now is not where this team needs to be or wants to be. >> Hayden Wesneski is back. We have not seen him on the mound for the Astros since May the 6th of 2025 coming off Tommy John surgery.
>> And that pitch is inside and he has walked Neto. Mike Trout will be the next batter. Trout’s gone one for eight in the series. Here’s the pitch and that one’s lifted in the air down the left side. Shallow left field.
People are chasing. No one’s going to get to it though. And getting to second is Trout and the Angels have him at second and third. >> They’re going to give Trout a double on this this one here. Is a thing of beauty.
This ball is jammed and it is in a perfect spot. >> Grissom is the cleanup batter for the Angels. He’s homered and driven in three runs in the first two games of the series. Next pitch and that’s a line shot and that’s through into left field. One run will score.
Another comes in and Grissom who’s been coming through a lot here in July with runners on base delivers there. He doubles and the Angels have a two-nothing lead. >> Well, this is a fastball and it is middle of the plate and Von Grissom jumps all >> over it. And easily moving over to third on that wild pitch will be Grissom. >> Now Jo Adell moving up in the lineup tonight.
>> The next one on Adell. This is hit on a high hop and it bounces over the glove of the shortstop Peña and that’s going to be another run. >> They had the infield back with Von Grissom and then they pulled it in for Jo Adell and this one hits right in front of home plate with the infield in and hops right over the head of Jeremy Peña for another hit. >> So, it’s three-nothing Angels. >> Diving stop by Grissom and from the outfield grass throws out Taylor Trammell.
Nicely done. >> So far so good as far as the way this team is playing. That outfield grass up pretty. Trammell runs well. Able to get him out by half a step.
>> Oh, Yainer Diaz gets his first at bat of the series. >> And that is crushed. Deep to left field. And you can kiss that one goodbye. Over both bullpens.
Yainer Diaz goes deep. That’s number seven on the year, and it’s 3 to 1 Angels. What a shot. >> Yainer got it in his wheelhouse. That’s his seventh homer of the year.
Puts the Astros on the board. They’re right back in it. >> 425 ft on that blast by Yainer. >> He took one of those changeups down and in and put it up into the bullpens. >> Top of the order for the Astros in the top of the third inning.
>> Jeremy Peña. >> Jeremy Peña sends one to deep left center field. Peña hits one out to left center. Another home run on this road trip for JP3. That’s an 11-game hitting streak, and it’s a one-run game.
>> Yeah, stop talking about Yordan and talk about Peña. How can we forget about him? He has been swinging a red-hot stick after the All-Star break and adds a homer right here. He took a slide on that outside edge and shot that 401 ft to left center. This is a beautiful swing.
>> Stayed back and barreled. >> So, with two outs here, back-to-back hits and a walk. >> And the loaded the bases. >> Yainer is starting to play with some good vibes against Grayson, and now he’s got a chance to do some damage with three runners on. >> Swings at this one and skies it in the air.
Should be a routine play for Jo Adell in right. He’s waiting for it to come down, makes the catch, and that will end the inning. So, they got one run in the inning, but they also will leave the bases loaded. >> All right, this is the time now you want that nasty pitch from Grayson Rodriguez. Finish him off.
He’s had a lot of at-bats so far where he’s got the two strikes and some foul balls. See if he can get it done quickly. >> There. Good changeup. That’s how you get it done quickly.
>> Strikeout to Smith. And that’s the fourth punchout for Rodriguez. >> One and two. Swing and a miss. Strikeout.
>> That’s 12 swing and misses already tonight for Grayson Rodriguez. >> Five strikeouts. Four of them from the bottom two hitters in the order. >> Yeah, that’s right on that and edges with the fastball. That’s what you want to do.
>> Denser Guzman leading off here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Here’s the one-two. >> Breaking ball hit weakly up the middle. Peña is going to cut across. He’s got it, gets rid of it quickly to get Guzman.
By about a half of a step, and there’s one out. >> Yeah, what a wizard he is. Had to range far to his left, still able to get plenty on that throw on the move to get Guzman at first. Excellent play. >> Is Neto a chance to swing the bat here >> now.
Neto with a walk and a run scored in the first inning, struck out his last time. It’s a three-to-two lead for the Angels here in the fourth. >> That’s a line shot backhanded by Peña. He catches it just before it gets to the grass, and it’s a lineout by Neto, and that’s the third out of the inning. >> Grayson Rodriguez trying to get through five.
He’s only been able to do that a few times this season. >> And that is a chase and a miss. Make it seven in a row retired, and the inning is over. That could be it for Grayson Rodriguez. That’s strikeout number five of the night for him.
>> The Astros trying to get something cooking here. >> Well, Cam Smith will bat against the lefty with the tying and go-ahead run on base with one out. >> Cam hits the ball fair down the left field line. Trammell will score. Yainer Diaz heads to third.
He’s going to be waved around by Pedro Chica. Yainer’s going to score. Two-RBI double by Cam Smith. Astros lead four to three. >> Let’s go, Cam.
[cheering] Some tough at-bats against Grayson, but here gets a fastball in and hits it hard enough to get it past Guzman at third base. Off the bat at 108.4, that bat speed picking up that knock for Cam Smith. With that ball rattling around in left field for Macler, Pedro Chica sending Yainer Diaz, he scores standing up all the way from first. >> That’ll be a walk and an advancement on the wild pitch, putting runners on first and third with one out for the red hot Jeremy Pena.
0-1. >> That’s outside and off the glove of Hannemann, rolls behind home plate. Smith scampers home. Down to second base goes Spence, and it is 5-3 Astros. Another ball getting away.
>> Bottom of the sixth inning, Hayden Wisneski working with a lead for the first time tonight. >> When you see that bite down, gets the swing and miss. >> There it is. There’s that depth you were talking about, with the swinging strikeout. >> Guzman lifts one over third, has a base hit with two outs.
>> Nice job on that sweeper there. >> And if you would have said 5 and 2/3, everybody in that Astros dugout would have taken it at the beginning of the night. His first start in 449 days, Hayden Wisneski will leave with a lead. >> Ben Joyce Souza into this game to make his ninth appearance. >> And Siri hits it in the air pretty deep to left center.
Back on it Trammell, has room, and he makes the catch couple of steps from the warning track to retire the side. >> Ground ball towards the middle, past Zach Neto into left center field. Altuve has his second hit of the night. Back-to-back two-hit games for Altuve. Here’s Yainer Diaz, who has a home run tonight.
>> Two for three with a couple of runs scored and an RBI. >> Runner goes. And it’s a pop-up shallow right field. Long run for Shawnawell, the first baseman. Can he get there?
He wobbles and it lands on the ground. Altuve’s racing home. Here’s the throw home, and he’s safe. Not much urgency by Shawnawell or Adell to pick up that baseball, and Altuve just kept running. And the Astros lead at 6-3 on the blooper.
>> Tony Perez Chica had the stop sign on, but I think Altuve saw the same thing you did. He saw the lack of urgency to pick up that baseball, and it definitely seemed like he caught the Angels by surprise when he kept on going home. >> So, it’s going to be a single for Yainer Diaz. >> One ball, one strike. That ball launched over toward right field.
Smith is on the run after it. It’s over his head as it one hops over the wall. It’s an automatic double. What a good start for the Angels here in the eighth. >> He hit a couple baseballs well today, including that line shot.
If you think the Halos can take one away from the Astros here. >> Smashes one to the right side. Gloved by Altuve. Nice play to his left. Jose makes that play for out number one here in the eighth.
>> Tuve’s made some plays today. Astros in this three-run game with the infield back here. They’ll trade a ground out for a run. >> Fly ball to right. This should bring home the run.
Smith getting himself in position for a long throw. Shafer Well, comes to the plate. Smith throw up the line. Shafer Well, scores. Sac fly for Adell.
His second RBI tonight. Team leading 62nd on the year and it’s 6-4. >> Here’s the next pitch and that’s a little bloop down the left side. It’s a fair ball. It’s going to roll down in the left field corner.
This will easily be a double. And Nevin keeps the inning going. Angels have had a pair of doubles in this inning. >> And the Astros clinging to that two-run lead over the Angels here in the bottom of the eighth with a couple of outs. Bryan Abreu to make his 41st appearance.
>> And that is strike three called on the inside corner. Guzman goes down looking. That was the cutter from Abreu and the side is retired. >> Yainer’s already driven in two runs tonight. Has a chance for another one here.
He’s got three hits in four at-bats. There’s a one-hopper backhanded by Guzman. Long throw and the throw gets away. That’ll score Christian Walker. Throw ends up in the dugout.
That means Yainer is going to head to second. And the Astros now lead 7-4. Yainer Diaz with a ground ball to the backhand of Guzman and the throw was not made cleanly. >> Astros head to the bottom half of the ninth inning with a 7-4 lead. Bryan Abreu, who got the last out of eighth, tried to get the final three outs.
This ball hit pretty well to right. Cam Smith back, but he has room, and the Astros sweep the Angels, and they are 500 for the first time since April the 8th. 113 days since they were last a 500 team, as they win it 7-4 tonight. That’s a 5-1 road trip.
